Best We Can Tell
A husband and wife talking about marriage, parenting, faith, work, culture, and whatever else is on our minds. We don’t have it all figured out - we’re just sharing what we’re learning, laughing about, and wrestling with along the way, best we can tell.

Two normal people do not wake up one day and feel “ready” for marriage, parenting, careers, dogs, schedules, and the steady hum of responsibility. We’re Tyler and Callie, we’ve been married for seven years, we’re raising two boys, and we finally admitted something out loud: we learn the most when we stop pretending we have clean answers and start talking like real humans. So we bought microphones and hit record, even though Callie was absolutely the most hesitant person in the room.
“Best We Can Tell” is our way of naming what we’re trying to build: honest conversation without expert cosplay. We’re not here to hand out advice or tell you how to live. We’re here to share what life looks like from where we’re sitting right now, while we’re still in the middle of it. That means we’ll talk about marriage, parenting, faith, work, family dynamics, culture, money, and the daily stuff that shapes a home. We also know we often land in different places, and we think that’s where the good conversations start.
You’ll hear stories from our background too, like Callie growing up in Wisconsin, meeting Tyler at seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, and the ongoing comedy of carrying the last name “Best” everywhere, including on an Army uniform. And yes, we’ll admit when we’ve changed our minds, like the classic parenting vow that “our kids will never have screens,” followed by real-life boundaries, movies, and a Nintendo Switch.
If you’re looking for a relatable marriage podcast, a parenting podcast that allows nuance, or a millennial couple podcast that keeps it honest, subscribe now, share this with a friend who’s in the messy middle, and leave a review so more people can find us. What do you want us to talk about next?
A Nervous Start With Microphones
TylerAll right. Are we actually doing this?
CallieApparently.
TylerLike people are actually going to listen to us talk.
CallieI think that's the idea of a podcast, yes.
TylerYeah, I feel like that is a terrible idea. It probably is. It probably is.
Who We Are And Our Life
TylerSo I'm Tyler.
CallieAnd I'm Callie.
TylerAnd we're married. We have two boys, and we have a job. Well, we have jobs. Um multiple jobs. We have a house. Uh, what else do we have? Dogs. Yeah. Responsibilities, kind of, and schedules.
CallieNever really feel like we're old enough for our responsibilities, but here we are. And now for some reason we have microphones. So um I am Callie. I grew up in Wisconsin. We're gonna talk about that quite a bit. Um, and I went to this seminary in the middle of nowhere in Wilmore, Kentucky, and I met this guy named Tyler Best.
TylerAnd we've been married for like seven years.
CallieSeven years and a few months. It's crazy. Yeah, it's wild.
TylerYeah. And I think Callie was probably the most hesitant to do the podcast.
Why We Want To Talk
TylerAnd here she is. So I appreciate her chilling and uh having fun.
Speaker 1It's so fitting though for like our whole relationship. I feel like I'm always the one that's like hesitant, and then somehow you convince me to do all these crazy things.
Speaker 2So in a nutshell, we're basically two normal people.
SpeakerNormal. Yeah, I mean normal is a is a relative. That's not the word I would use to describe us.
Speaker 2We're we're people then. We're yes, we're and we'll take the word normal.
Speaker 1People trying to figure out our marriage, trying to figure out parenting and work and faith and life, and and frequently we come to very different conclusions. We do, yeah, we do.
Speaker 2So that that'll be something very interesting. So I was on a podcast with uh some friends, and we had a lot of fun, and I love the experience of just sitting around uh and having conversation and goofing off and almost goofing off too much. And I thought, I think Callie and I could do this. I think we could have a lot of fun with it.
Speaker 1Yeah, so um normally a joke that we have in our house is that uh anytime Tyler says, I have an idea.
Speaker 2And Graham started saying it.
Speaker 1And Graham has started saying it, oh my gosh, I'm doomed.
Speaker 2Our son, our oldest.
Speaker 1Yeah, I'm I'm doomed in this house. Um, but yeah, so of course, instead of keeping that to himself, he came home and he said, Hey, would you want to do this with me? And I was like, No. But here we are. Here we are. Because he uh convinced me, and I think it's just important to talk about things that you know. I think um I have a lot of conversations with people about, and I'm like, why aren't we talking more about X blank? Yeah, fill in the blank. And um I think millennials are learning that talking about things and getting things I mean, not like Yeah, we're not gonna go deep. Not like yeah, we're not like airing our dirty laundry here. Um well we might, but I mean just stick with us long enough enough. But but stay tuned. Like just talking about things that need to be talked about. And I think we have a lot of conversations about that um with each other, and we have a lot of conversations about that about things like this, you know, with people at work and friends, and friends, yeah. Yeah, so we're like, here we are, here we are. So that's why
What Best We Can Tell Means
Speaker 1I said yes.
Speaker 2Yeah, well, so obviously our our last name is best, right? Uh, which you know, we'll talk more about this at some point, I'm sure. But I thought it seemed a little pretentious. Well, it can be a blessing and a curse because there's a lot of jokes.
Speaker 1Also, for someone that wears her name every day. Yeah, it's on her army uniform.
unknownJeez.
Speaker 2So the more we thought about it, um, best we can tell describes what we want this podcast to be. Um, we're not experts, we're not trying to tell you how to live your life. We're just two people just living life in the middle of it ourselves. Yeah. And we're trying to figure it out ourselves. And whenever we do an episode, it's gonna be like this is where we are right now. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
Speaker 2This is who we are, what we're experiencing right now. And based on those experiences and what we're learning, this is what we're what we're trying to figure
Topics We Will Tackle
Speaker 2out.
Speaker 1Right. So some different things that you might hear us talk about are marriage, um, parenting, faith, uh, work, family, culture, money, things that you're learning, things that I'm learning. Um things you've changed your mind about. We have changed our minds about a lot of things. I think.
Speaker 2Yeah, we we like for instance, we said, our kids will never have screens. Those parents that do screens are horrible people and they're brainwashing their children and their brain, you know, their minds are going to mush. And here we are.
Speaker 1Here we are. Uh our yeah.
Speaker 2Our kids have TVs in their room.
Speaker 1They love movies. Graham loves playing a switch, but they also we try to have boundaries. Yeah, we have boundaries. They play with a lot of choice. But, anyways, that's one thing that we've kind of just changing our mind about. Um, things we don't agree on.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Which never happens. No, never. We never disagree.
Speaker 2So yeah, we're not telling you how life works, we're telling you how it looks from where we're sitting. Best we can tell. Best we can tell. So yeah, I am very excited uh to do this. Um and I think we should actually just stop it there. Yeah. Best we can tell.
Speaker 1You think there's a long enough pause after you said best we can tell? Figure it out.
unknownOkay. Yeah.
